1st SMART4SEA Awards
SAFETY4SEA announced the winners of the inaugural SMART4SEA Awards for 2017 at a prestigious awards ceremony during the 2017 SMART4SEA Conference which successfully concluded on Tuesday 31st of January 2017 in Eugenides Foundation Athens attracting 460 delegates from 15 countries representing a total of 240 organizations.

2017 SMART4SEA Excellence Award
Winner
Inmarsat
For its high-speed satellite broadband service, Fleet Xpress, which changes crew lives onboard through greater connectivity with family& friends, video on-demand, social media, online training, telemedicine and measures to shift the administrative burden back to shore.

Inmarsat is the leader and pioneer of mobile satellite communications and has been powering global connectivity for more than three decades. Being a close partner of Inmarsat the last few years, I honestly have a full picture and experience of its dynamics, capabilities and vision. I am excited for cooperating with Inmarsat for what is able to offer nowadays in the maritime sector but I am most excited to see what its plans are for tomorrow.

Monalisa 2 – STM Validation
For introducing smart solutions for sharing information data resulting in efficient, safe and environmentally friendly maritime transport in the EU while at the same time reducing administrative burdens.

On behalf of HEMEXPO, the group of Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers & Exporters, bringing together organizations sharing a common innovative vision towards safer shipping it is my pleasure today to present the winner of the first SMART4SEA Innovation Award selected from a short list of distinguished nominees. Given the current and future availability of broadband satellite communication, Sea Traffic Management is of vital importance for enhanced operational safety where data sharing is essential. Sincere congratulations to MONALISA 2.0 project which has succeeded in keeping updated various stakeholders by assuring both transparency and safety at sea traffic. Fore and foremost, this EU project has innovated in proving that through cooperation everything can happen. Now that industry moves forward to a smarter era a collaborative approach in sea traffic management, is imperative.

About SMART4SEA Awards
SMART4SEA Awards are part of the SMART4SEA Conference within the scope of fostering Smart & Sustainable Shipping. The process to be employed is a combination of open nomination and vote. The award categories are:
SMART4SEA Excellence Award
To be awarded to any organization that demonstrated technological excellence and performance above average in any aspect of smart maritime activity.
SMART4SEA Innovation Award
To be awarded to any organization that sparked, realised, or significantly contributed in any innovation fostering smart shipping.
SMART4SEA Technology Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement in technology or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of smart maritime activity.
Notification procedure is initiated few months ahead of the event with an open invitation to the industry stakeholders to propose nominations online via relevant form at dedicated awards page. Shortlisted nominees are announced within a week after nomination submission is concluded and open vote to declare the winner of each category is available for a period of three months through relevant application at dedicated awards page. Winners are announced during awards ceremony at the completion of the SMART4SEA conference.
