2020 SAFETY4SEA Awards

SAFETY4SEA is delighted to announce the SAFETY4SEA Awards for the fifth consecutive year within the scope of fostering Safety Excellence & Sustainable Shipping. The process to be employed is a combination of open nomination and vote while the presentation shall take place during the award ceremony to be held on October the 6th, the day ahead of the SAFETY4SEA Forum, in Athens.

SAFETY4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award
To be awarded to any ship operator of bulk carriers, or general dry cargo vessels that demonstrated safety excellence and performance above average in any aspect of maritime activity

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Cosco Shipping Bulk, for providing a full range of safe and quality ship management services
  • Intership Navigation, for its commitment to provide excellence in ship management services
  • Target Marine SA, for providing reliable and efficient technical ship management services
  • V.Group, for ensuring all operations are aligned with company’s long-term sustainability strategy
  • Wallem, for putting wellness at sea as a top priority during COVID-19 pandemic


SAFETY4SEA Tanker Operator Award
To be awarded to any ship operator of oil or chemical tankers, or gas carriers that demonstrated safety excellence and performance above average in any aspect of maritime activity

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • LSC, for enhancing safety awareness and environmental conscientiousness
  • Maersk Tankers, for aiming at achieving zero incident and zero spill
  • Synergy Maritime, for investing in people at sea and ashore, addressing crew requirements
  • Thome Group, for focusing on safety, health and quality during the coronavirus pandemic
  • Torm, for its presence in shipping with zero tolerance culture for safety excellence


SAFETY4SEA Sustainability Award
To be awarded to any organization that contributed towards sustainable shipping

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • ABS, for launching ABS Global Sustainability Cente
  • Baltic Exchange, for providing up-to-date and valuable information of the bulk and dry market performance
  • IACS, for setting the roadmap towards cyber resilience
  • IAPH, for its ‘Women in Ports Mentoring Program’
  • Singapore’s Information Fusion Centre, for providing insights on the sea theft and robbery incidents in the Singapore Straits


SAFETY4SEA Training Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of maritime training

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Kongsberg Digital, for its K-Sim Fishery simulator
  • Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), for its anti-corruption e-learning toolkit
  • Steamship Mutual, for producing a series of coronavirus training videos
  • The Mission to Seafarers, for its WeCare Social Communications and Financial Literacy training programme
  • World Maritime University, for its MARI-WEL training program


SAFETY4SEA Technology Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant technological achievement or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of maritime safety activity

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Aurora Digital Solutions, for its short Virtual Reality training module (‘VR Mooring Operations Safety’)
  • Empire Group of Companies, for its Intranet Support Portal
  • North Club, for its ‘Digital Covid-19 Tracking Tool’
  • SRH MARINE SAIT, for its maritime route planning tool ‘SRHNav’
  • ST Engineering, for its ‘Maritime Situational Awareness System’


SAFETY4SEA Initiative Award
To be awarded to any organization or association that sparked, realized, or significantly contributed in any initiative fostering safer and sustainable shipping

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • InterManager, for launching the ‘Maritime Champions League’
  • International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), for addressing age discrimination in the shipping industry
  • The Standard Club, for launching a series of posters on healthy eating, fitness, mental wellbeing and socialisation
  • TT Club, for its ‘Cargo Integrity campaign’ on cargo safety
  • V.Group, for ‘Life After Lockdown’ white papers focusing on COVID-19 impact on maritime operations


SAFETY4SEA Personality Award
To be awarded to an individual that provided industry influence and contributed towards safer shipping


SAFETY4SEA Leadership Award
To be awarded to an individual that has provided industry leadership and contributed towards safer shipping throughout his/her career


Awards are subject to the following procedure, terms and conditions.

Nomination and Voting Procedure:

  1. Notification procedure is initiated few months ahead of the event with an open invitation to the industry stakeholders to propose nominations on the web. Nominations are valid only with an online submission completing the form below and can be made by any individual involved in shipping, limited to one nomination per category per person. All nominations MUST be in English language and provide a clear indication of the reasons behind the nomination (as appropriate).
  2. SAFETY4SEA Editorial staff will review all nominations for validity in line with rules, terms and conditions announced and place all valid nominations to the website for the online Open Vote in line with the deadlines announced.
  3. For each category winner will be the nominee that has attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period. Only one vote per person per category will be allowed.
  4. Awards shall be presented to winners during the award ceremony to be held on October the 6th, the day ahead of the SAFETY4SEA Forum, in Athens.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. Nominations: 2020 SAFETY4SEA Awards are open for nominations till Friday, 3rd of July 2020. Valid nominations will be reviewed by the editorial staff and put to online open vote on events.safety4sea.com, supported by social media and e-mail campaigns.
  2. Eligibility: Only work or achievements taking place within the last 18 months (2019-2020) will be eligible. Each nomination to meet the award description and specified entry criteria.
  3. Online Open Vote Procedure: Only one vote is accepted per award category. Vote will be open till 4th of September 2020.
  4. Awards Announcement: Awards shall be presented to winners during the award ceremony to be held on October the 6th, the day ahead of the SAFETY4SEA Forum, in Athens.
