2023 SMART4SEA Virtual Awards

SAFETY4SEA is delighted to announce the SMART4SEA Awards for the seventh consecutive year within the scope of fostering Smart Excellence & Sustainable Shipping. The process to be employed is a combination of open nomination and vote while the presentation shall take place at a dedicated special virtual event on Wednesday, 22nd of February 2023.

SMART4SEA E-Navigation Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of e-navigation in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Innovez One, for its marineM platform
  • NAVTOR, for its Auto-Routeing Module in NavStation
  • Sea Machines, for its SM300 system
  • STAG MARINE, for its Remote Marine Surveillance product ‘I lookout’
  • UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO), for withdrawing from paper charts, enhancing its digital navigation services


SMART4SEA Connectivity Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution with respect to ship connectivity.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Airbus Defence and Space, for its OneSat
  • KVH Industries, for its TracNet™ terminals
  • Marlink, for its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite services
  • PSA Marine, for its OHS-Sapphire
  • Telenor Satellite, for its XipLink™ WAN optimiser service


SMART4SEA Energy Efficiency Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of energy efficiency in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Blue Visby, for providing a solution that reduces a voyage’s emissions
  • Nautilus Labs, for its Boil-off Gas Optimization
  • PortXchange, for its project that provides ports with a holistic view of their emissions
  • V.Group, for investing in energy efficiency
  • ZeroNorth, for unveiling a new fuel model that uses AI and machine learning


SMART4SEA Cyber Security Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of Cyber Security in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Astaara, for offering dedicated cyber-risk management solutions
  • CyberOwl, for its Medulla cyber risk monitoring solution
  • CYDOME, for offering advanced cybersecurity solutions
  • DSLAB Company, for its cyber threat intelligence system
  • Marlink, for its Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) cyber solution


SMART4SEA Training Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of Training with respect to smart shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Mintra, for its learning and competence management system, Trainingportal
  • NAPA, for its NAPA Stability eLearning course
  • NSBacademy, for its Decarbonization E-learning Program
  • OneLearn Global, for its Seafarer Evaluation App
  • Seably, for providing a DNV approved digital training platform


SMART4SEA Technology Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a milestone technological achievement or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of smart maritime activity.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Alpha Ori Technologies, for its Digital Solutions SMARTShip, SMARTVoyager and ShipPalm
  • Consilium Safety Group, for its ‘Early Action’ fire warning service
  • Oceanic, for its NERIS catering and provisions management solution
  • Seafair, for providing a digital manning service through its crewing platform 
  • Sperry Marine, for its NAVIPILOT 4500N


SMART4SEA Personality Award
To be awarded to an individual that provided industry influence and contributed towards smarter shipping.


SMART4SEA Leadership Award
To be awarded to an individual that has provided industry leadership and contributed towards smarter shipping throughout his/her career.


Awards are subject to the following procedure, terms and conditions.

Nomination and Voting Procedure:

  1. Notification procedure is initiated few months ahead of the event with an open invitation to the industry stakeholders to propose nominations on the web. Nominations are valid only with an online submission completing the form below and can be made by any individual involved in shipping, limited to one nomination per category per person. All nominations MUST be in English language and provide a clear indication of the reasons behind the nomination (as appropriate).
  2. SAFETY4SEA Editorial staff will review all nominations for validity in line with rules, terms and conditions announced and place all valid nominations to the website for the online Open Vote in line with the deadlines announced.
  3. For each category winner will be the nominee that has attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period. Only one vote per person per category will be allowed.
  4. Awards shall be presented to winners at a dedicated special virtual event on Wednesday, 22nd of February 2023.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. Nominations: 2023 SMART4SEA Awards are open for nominations till Friday, 2nd of December 2022. Valid nominations will be reviewed by the editorial staff and put to online open vote on events.safety4sea.com, supported by social media and e-mail campaigns.
  2. Eligibility: Only work or achievements taking place within the last 18 months will be eligible. Each nomination to meet the award description and specified entry criteria.
  3. Online Open Vote Procedure: Only one vote is accepted per award category. Vote will be open till 13th of January 2023.
  4. Awards Announcement: Awards shall be presented to winners at a dedicated special virtual event on Wednesday, 22nd of February 2023.
