2021 SAFETY4SEA Virtual Awards Ceremony due on October the 20th!

SAFETY4SEA is delighted to announce the SAFETY4SEA Virtual Awards for the sixth consecutive year within the scope of fostering Safety Excellence & Sustainable Shipping. The process to be employed is a combination of open nomination and vote while the presentation shall take place at a dedicated special event to be held on October the 20th, during the SAFETY4SEA Virtual Forum.

The Award categories are:

SAFETY4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award
To be awarded to any ship operator of bulk carriers, or general dry cargo vessels that demonstrated safety excellence and performance above average in any aspect of maritime activity

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Blue Planet Shipping Ltd, for focusing its strategy on offering vaccines to all of its seafarers
  • Fleet Management Limited, for its ‘PARIS’ (Planning And Reporting Infrastructure for Ship) online visual dashboard
  • Maran Dry Management Inc, for conducting safe operations and embracing crew welfare
  • Thenamaris Conbulk, for creating a safe working environment with the implementation of an effective SQEMS
  • Wallem Group, for embracing digital solutions and focusing on the welfare of Wallem seafarers


SAFETY4SEA Tanker Operator Award
To be awarded to any ship operator of oil or chemical tankers, or gas carriers that demonstrated safety excellence and performance above average in any aspect of maritime activity

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Evergas Ship Management Pte Ltd, for embracing many safety initiatives resulting in zero LTI for the past 3 years
  • Maersk Tankers, for employing solutions that maximize their vessels’ safety performance
  • MM Marine Inc, for operating one of the world’s largest and modern fleets of bunkering tankers
  • Sun Enterprises Ltd., for establishing a longstanding tradition of operating a safe and efficient fleet
  • V.Group, for actively driving a number of safety initiatives within the industry


SAFETY4SEA Sustainability Award
To be awarded to any organization that contributed towards sustainable shipping

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • ABS, for embracing a sustainability and decarbonization agenda
  • European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA), for taking action to resolve the crew change crisis
  • Nautilus International, for its ‘Build Back Fairer’ a campaign
  • Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI), for playing a leading role towards addressing sustainability
  • YoungShip, for focusing on next generation development and networking regardless of gender


SAFETY4SEA Training Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of maritime training

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • CEOSAN CONSULTING, for offering training with a focus on the Human Element
  • CSMART Academy, for providing innovative online training during COVID-19
  • Maritime Training Institute Karachi-Pakistan, for providing training programs for New Entrants and Existing Seafarers to advance their career
  • OCEAN Technologies Group, for its ‘Ocean Learning Platform’
  • V.Group, for putting training at the heart of all operations


SAFETY4SEA Technology Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant technological achievement or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of maritime safety activity

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • ABS, for supporting 3D model-based engineering plan review and survey
  • M2Intelligence, for offering real time video and audio streaming
  • NAVTOR AS, for its ‘NavFleet’ tool
  • Scoutbase, for its ‘Human Factor Platform’
  • ShipIn, for equipping seafarers with advanced tools for safe and productive voyages


SAFETY4SEA Initiative Award
To be awarded to any organization or association that sparked, realized, or significantly contributed in any initiative fostering safer and sustainable shipping

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Britannia P&I Club, for its ‘BSafe’ proactive safety campaign
  • International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), for its ‘IMCA’s Safety Flashes’
  • Project Connect, for helping young people to start a career within the maritime industry
  • V.Group, for conducting a Safety Climate Assessment in collaboration with LR
  • Workplace Options, for providing an innovative service on seafarers’ mental health via a partnership with Future Care


SAFETY4SEA COVID-19 Resilience Award
To be awarded to any organization or association that created an action plan on tackling and responding for the novel COVID–19 outbreak

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry, for taking considerable action to resolve the crew change crisis
  • IMEC (The International Maritime Employers’ Council), for enabling safe crew changes with the creation of a pre-embarkation quarantine facility in the Philippines
  • ISWAN, for assisting more than 40,000 Seafarers worldwide since COVID-19
  • Magsaysay People Resources Corporation, for launching a comprehensive ‘We Care Program’
  • Sailors’ Society, for its ‘Wellness at Sea Awareness Campaign’


SAFETY4SEA Personality Award
To be awarded to an individual person that provided industry influence and contributed towards safer shipping


SAFETY4SEA Leadership Award
To be awarded to an individual that has provided industry leadership and contributed towards safer shipping throughout his/her career


Awards are subject to the following procedure, terms and conditions.

Nomination and Voting Procedure:

  1. Notification procedure is initiated few months ahead of the event with an open invitation to the industry stakeholders to propose nominations on the web. Nominations are valid only with an online submission completing the form below and can be made by any individual involved in shipping, limited to one nomination per category per person. All nominations MUST be in English language and provide a clear indication of the reasons behind the nomination (as appropriate).
  2. SAFETY4SEA Editorial staff will review all nominations for validity in line with rules, terms and conditions announced and place all valid nominations to the website for the online Open Vote in line with the deadlines announced.
  3. For each category, winner will be the nominee that has achieved the bast ranking based on both open online voting (50%) and Industry Panel of Experts (50%) at the end of the open voting period. For the open voting, one vote per person per category will be allowed.
  4. Awards shall be presented to winners at a dedicated special event to be held on October the 20th, during the SAFETY4SEA Virtual Forum.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. Nominations: 2021 SAFETY4SEA Virtual Awards are open for nominations till Friday, 16th of July 2021. Valid nominations will be reviewed by the editorial staff and put to online open vote on events.safety4sea.com, supported by social media and e-mail campaigns.
  2. Eligibility: Only work or achievements taking place within the last 18 months (2020-2021) will be eligible. Each nomination to meet the award description and specified entry criteria.
  3. Online Open Vote Procedure: Only one vote is accepted per award category. Vote will be open till 10th of September 2021.
  4. Awards Announcement: Awards shall be presented to winners at a dedicated special event to be held on October the 20th, during the SAFETY4SEA Virtual Forum.
