2022 SMART4SEA Virtual Awards

SAFETY4SEA is delighted to announce the SMART4SEA Awards for the sixth consecutive year within the scope of fostering Smart Excellence & Sustainable Shipping. The process to be employed is a combination of open nomination and vote while the presentation shall take place during the SMART4SEA Virtual Forum.

SMART4SEA E-Navigation Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of e-navigation in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Singapore Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS), for enhancing navigational safety with advanced smart technologies
  • Hamburg Port Authority, for the ‘Hamburg TruckPilot’ project
  • Ports of Auckland, for the ‘eMPX’ professional standard for Master-Pilot exchange
  • Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, for its ‘Port Activity Application’
  • Wärtsilä Voyage, for its ‘Wärtsilä BridgeMate’ app


SMART4SEA Connectivity Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution with respect to ship connectivity.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Columbia Shipmanagement, for the launch of its Performance Optimization Control Room (POCR)
  • Kongsberg Digital, for its ‘Kognifai Marketplace’
  • Marlink, for the ‘‘Network of Networks’ standalone solution
  • Navarino, for providing advanced communications and connectivity services
  • UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO), for developing ADMIRALTY GAM Service


SMART4SEA Energy Efficiency Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of energy efficiency in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • ABS, for its ‘SIM-based Energy Efficiency Evaluation’ service
  • DeepSea Technologies, for developing ‘Pythia’ weather routing and voyage optimization platform
  • Propulsion Analytics, for its ‘VesselQUAD®” engine & vessel performance assessment application
  • Weathernews, for offering an upgraded version of the CIM Service
  • WinGD, for offering advanced hybrid solutions that surpass IMO’s 2030 targets


SMART4SEA Cyber Security Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of Cyber Security in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • ABS, for its ‘CyberSafety Guide’ for marine and offshore
  • CyberOwl, for ‘Medulla’ cybersecurity monitoring and analytics system
  • Cydome, for offering full cybersecurity coverage
  • GTMaritime, for the ‘FastNet’ data platform for cyber resilience
  • Navarino, for its ‘Angel’ and ‘Angel Office’ cyber security solutions


SMART4SEA Training Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of Training with respect to smart shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Mintra, for offering new extensive Maritime Course Library
  • NSBacademy, for its ‘Learning Nuggets’ online seminars
  • OneLearn Global, for offering its next-gen Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Seably, for providing an online community-driven maritime training marketplace
  • V.Group, for putting training and development of crew and colleagues at the heart of all operations


SMART4SEA Technology Award
To be awarded to any organization that provided a milestone technological achievement or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of smart maritime activity.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Kongsberg Digital, for ‘Vessel Insight’ secure data infrastructure
  • M2Intelligence, for enabling live remote ship monitoring and ship remote surveys globally
  • MacGregor, for developing OnWatch Scout (OWS) service
  • Sea Machines, for realizing autonomous navigation technology
  • Wärtsilä Voyage, for the ‘SPECS’ system


SMART4SEA Personality Award
To be awarded to an individual that provided industry influence and contributed towards smarter shipping.


SMART4SEA Leadership Award
To be awarded to an individual that has provided industry leadership and contributed towards smarter shipping throughout his/her career.


Awards are subject to the following procedure, terms and conditions.

Nomination and Voting Procedure:

  1. Notification procedure is initiated few months ahead of the event with an open invitation to the industry stakeholders to propose nominations on the web. Nominations are valid only with an online submission completing the form below and can be made by any individual involved in shipping, limited to one nomination per category per person. All nominations MUST be in English language and provide a clear indication of the reasons behind the nomination (as appropriate).
  2. SAFETY4SEA Editorial staff will review all nominations for validity in line with rules, terms and conditions announced and place all valid nominations to the website for the online Open Vote in line with the deadlines announced.
  3. For each category winner will be the nominee that has attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period. Only one vote per person per category will be allowed.
  4. Awards shall be presented to winners during the SMART4SEA Virtual Forum.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. Nominations: 2022 SMART4SEA Awards are open for nominations till Friday, 19th of November 2021. Valid nominations will be reviewed by the editorial staff and put to online open vote on events.safety4sea.com, supported by social media and e-mail campaigns.
  2. Eligibility: Only work or achievements taking place within the last 18 months (2021-2022) will be eligible. Each nomination to meet the award description and specified entry criteria.
  3. Online Open Vote Procedure: Only one vote is accepted per award category. Vote will be open till 7th of January 2022.
  4. Awards Announcement: Awards shall be presented to winners during the SMART4SEA Virtual Forum.
