8th SMART4SEA Virtual Awards

SAFETY4SEA is delighted to announce the SMART4SEA Awards for the eighth consecutive year within the scope of fostering Smart Excellence & Sustainable Shipping. The process to be employed is a combination of open nomination and vote while the presentation shall take place at a dedicated special virtual event on Wednesday, 28th of February 2024.

SMART4SEA E-Navigation Award
To be awarded to an organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of e-navigation in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Avikus Co., Ltd., for its HiNAS – Hyundai intelligent Navigation Assistant System
  • BOGERD MARTIN, for cooperating with Chart Track to connect ship & shore
  • Kpler, for offering ship tracking capabilities
  • UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO), for focusing on digital navigation products and services
  • Weathernews Inc., for facilitating e-navigation with weather intelligence data


SMART4SEA Connectivity Award
To be awarded to an organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution with respect to ship connectivity.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Ardmore Shipping, for its ‘Ardmore Crew’s Got Talent’ program that fosters crew connectivity
  • Bazeport, for launching a special digital content service
  • Columbia Group, for enhancing connectivity onboard with the adoption of Starlink satellites
  • Inmarsat, for its ‘‘Fleet Reach’ service
  • Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) & Marlink, for providing Low Earth Orbit (LEO) internet solutions
  • Seafair, for offering a network 24/7 that supports connectivity


SMART4SEA Energy Efficiency Award
To be awarded to an organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of energy efficiency in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • ABS Wavesight, for its Nautical Systems Voyage Manager
  • Ascenz Marorka, for its Vessel Performance Optimization Platform
  • AYRO, for its AYRO OceanWings®
  • NAPA, for participating in a joint simulation project that support energy efficiency
  • ZeroNorth, for its Vessel Optimisation service


SMART4SEA Cyber Security Award
To be awarded to an organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of Cyber Security in shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • CyberOwl, for helping ship operators incorporate cyber hygiene and best practices
  • Marlink, for its ‘CyberGuard UTM’ solution using a Firewall as a Service model
  • NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, for its Maritime Cyber Attack Database (MCAD)
  • Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, for its Norwegian Maritime Cyber Resilience Centre
  • Red Sky Alliance, for its Vessel Impersonation Reports


SMART4SEA Training Award
To be awarded to an organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of Training with respect to smart shipping.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Mintra, for its new digital learning solution with Kongsberg digital simulators
  • NSB Academy, for its Decarbonization E-learning Program
  • OneLearn Global, for offering an eLearning Diversity course
  • VSTEP Simulation, for leading the way to simulation and virtual solutions
  • Wärtsilä Land and Sea Academy, for offering blended training to enhance crew training


SMART4SEA Technology Award
To be awarded to an organization that provided a milestone technological achievement or breakthrough or significant contribution in any aspect of smart maritime activity.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Danelec, for its Danelec Connect platform
  • OneLink, for its OneLink platform
  • Sedna, for its data-driven communication platform
  • Shipnext, for its digital shipping platform, that uses machine learning and AI
  • Veson Nautical, for Veson IMOS Platform (VIP)


SMART4SEA Personality Award
To be awarded to an individual that provided industry influence and contributed towards smarter shipping.


SMART4SEA Leadership Award
To be awarded to an individual that has provided industry leadership and contributed towards smarter shipping throughout his/her career.


Awards are subject to the following procedure, terms and conditions.

Nomination and Voting Procedure:

  1. Notification procedure is initiated few months ahead of the event with an open invitation to the industry stakeholders to propose nominations on the web. Nominations are valid only with an online submission completing the form below and can be made by any individual involved in shipping, limited to one nomination per category per person. All nominations MUST be in English language and provide a clear indication of the reasons behind the nomination (as appropriate).
  2. SAFETY4SEA Editorial staff will review all nominations for validity in line with rules, terms and conditions announced and place all valid nominations to the website for the online Open Vote in line with the deadlines announced.
  3. For each category winner will be the nominee that has attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period. Only one vote per person per category will be allowed.
  4. Awards shall be presented to winners at a dedicated special virtual event on Wednesday, 28th of February 2024.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. Nominations: 8th SMART4SEA Awards are open for nominations till Friday, 19th of November 2023. Valid nominations will be reviewed by the editorial staff and put to online open vote on events.safety4sea.com, supported by social media and e-mail campaigns.
  2. Eligibility: Only work or achievements taking place within the last 18 months will be eligible. Each nomination to meet the award description and specified entry criteria.
  3. Online Open Vote Procedure: Only one vote is accepted per award category. Vote will be open till 12th of January 2024.
  4. Awards Announcement: Awards shall be presented to winners at a dedicated special virtual event on Wednesday, 28th of February 2024.
